The hypocrisy of corporate wellness makes my skin crawl. I loathe it. It is a smokescreen designed to absolve companies of responsibility. They never address the core issue: their employees are overworked and/or the environment is toxic. I think corporate wellness is even worse because it sends employees the message that if they can’t cope, the problem is theirs. This contradictory message creates cognitive dissonance and makes the situation even more damaging.
I like the question at the heart of this: if the job itself is what is draining people, why is the solution always something added on top of the job? Care starts to feel performative when nothing is actually taken off someone’s plate.

The closer I look, the more I notice how performative society we have became in the recent years. It is a bit terrifying.
